About the Founders

Holland Jordan, Founder

Holland (Holly) Jordan had the opportunity to experience the meaning of community and caring for others without regard to gender or ethnicity from a very young age. Her childhood home was the place where kids and parents in the neighborhood would go for inspiration, share food and life lessons, and relax within a caring and nurturing environment. It was home where Holland learned to be a positive role model and lead by example; treating others the way she wanted to be treated.

After high school, Holland attended Long Beach City College, during which time she and her best friend, Rosie Turner, brainstormed ways to earn money while having fun. They eventually formed Fox Productions, “a social network,” and began to produce social events all over the city, connecting and embracing diverse groups of people.

Holland later decided to enlist in the U.S. Army and traveled extensively for 13 years. She continued to attend community college and obtained two Associate degrees. She was accepted to the University of California, Berkeley in 2002 and earned a Bachelor’s degree in Sociology (Phi Beta Kappa-Magna Cum Laude). After graduation Holland worked as an HIV case manager in Oakland, California and went on to earn her Master’s Degree in Social Work. It was while working with diverse groups of women from around the world, in the military and college, Holland realized women want to feel empowered, inspired, and love to motivate one another. From that powerful realization, She Is Me Empowerment was created.

Holland is a Licensed Social Worker (LMSW) with a goal of inspiring women to lead extraordinary lives by empowering them through mentorship, education, and networking.

Rosie Chaney, Co-Founder

Rosemarie (Rosie) Turner-Chaney is currently a registered nurse in Los Angeles County. She has a 38-year career in nursing which started right after high school when she was offered a job as a nursing assistant. She became a Licensed vocational nurse in 1983 and then obtained her license as a Registered Nurse in 1988. Rosie has completed both a bachelor’s degree in business and a master’s degree in nursing. She currently holds a hospital administration leadership position, but still manages to build positive nurturing bedside relationships with patients.

Rosie was born in Bremerhaven, Germany but was raised and has lived her entire life in Long Beach, California. She grew up in a close-knit family and learned the importance of compassion, valuing relationships and empowering people quite early in life. If someone needed guidance, or just wanted to have some fun or a good laugh the Turner household was the place to go. Every girl in the neighborhood wanted Rosie for a friend because she was confident, down-to-earth and a giving person. She still carries forward those same attributes today and continues to mentor nursing students and young women throughout Los Angeles county.

Rosie is a member of Sigma Theta Tau International, and the Association of Women’s Health, Obstetrics and Neonatal Nurses. Other organizations she has been affiliated with include Black Infant Health of Los Angeles, the NAACP Health Committee for the City of Long Beach, and Southeast LA Perinatal Outreach.  Rosie’s commitment to She Is Me Empowerment is to make sure all women have the support, knowledge and resources needed for success and fulfillment. Rosie has a strong belief in her faith and continues to be active in her church.
